Maria Rita is a Portuguese sculpture working mainly with clay and old book pages.
'The representation of childhood in its original purity and innocence in its oneiric dimension. The expression of emotions and own uniqueness of the human being transposed into the infinite plasticity of materials.
It is the recreation of this universe that I seek in shaping the sculptures I create. The reality merges with fiction; octopus-girls, nothing-thing, dirty-white, wet-dry...
I'm not interested in the reality, I am interested in my reality.'
