'Cecilia Paredes brings us to face the body memory as the foundation of culture, and for this, she differs from the feminine victimization in Judeo-Christian tradition, scheduling the escape through nature, a nature proposed as an indivisible extension of herself.
The artist experiments with her own body and registers in photographic support the anatomical fragments that were the object of actions of performative nature, in which the sacred and the profane, the human and the animal become one single thing.
In the latest work, the representation of her body is part of the landscape. For this series, she chose specific natural fabrics as printed linen. Pure linens come from a plant and in this case, flora is printed on them, so a double value is already placed there, a plant representing a plant. Paredes states, 'I wrap, cover or paint my body with the same pattern of the material and ‘re–present’ myself as part of that landscape. Through this act, I am working on the theme of building my own identification with the entourage or part of the world where I live or where I feel I can call home. My bio has been described as nomadic so maybe this is also a need of addressing the process of constant relocation. There is also the factor in my mind that flora as we know it, is coming to be endangered so with all these preoccupations, I think that in these works, aesthetics bind with the anthropologic in order to register fragments of personal and social memory.'
